Altech Chemicals (ATC) and joint venture partner Fraunhofer launched the CERENERGY Sodium Alumina Solid State 60-kilowatt-per-hour battery pack (ABS60).
The CERENERGY battery offers an alternative to the stationary energy storage market and is designed to be sized in racks stored in sea containers that can be deployed for grid storage.
The ABS60 battery pack will comprise 240 CERENERGY cells which are dust and weatherproof, implying they can be installed outdoors in all weather conditions.
The larger ABS60 pack will permit more effective installation and reduce module assembly casing and connecting costs.
Altech will be the majority owner of the joint venture with a 75 percent holding.
The joint venture will commercialize a 100-megawatt-per-hour project
In mid-September 2022, Altech announced a joint agreement with the most-eminent German battery institute Fraunhofer IKTS (Fraunhofer) to commercialize Fraunhofer’s revolutionary CERENERGY(R) Sodium Alumina Solid State (SAS) Battery. Altech as a group with associated Altech Advanced Material AG will be the majority owner at 75% of the JV company, which will commercialize a 100 MWh project to be built on Altech’s land in Schwarze Pumpe, Germany. CERENERGY(R) batteries are the state-of-the-art grid storage alternative to lithium-ion batteries.
The project will be a battery plant that will produce 10,000 sodium alumina solid-state battery modules annually, each rated at 10 kilowatts each hour.
In an earlier statement, the technology company stated it anticipates the battery modules to sell for between €7000 and €9000 each or €700 to €900 per kilowatt-per-hour.
Shares in Altech were up 6.98 percent and trading at 11.5 cents at 1:58 pm AEDT.
About Altech Chemicals Limited
Altech Chemicals Ltd is a specialty battery technology company that has a joint venture agreement with the world-class German battery institute Fraunhofer IKTS (“IKTS”) to commercialize the revolutionary CERENERGY Sodium Alumina Solid State (SAS) Battery.
CERENERGY batteries are a revolutionary alternative to lithium-ion batteries. CERENERGY batteries are fire and explosion-proof; have a life span of over 15 years and operate in extreme cold and desert climates. The battery technology utilizes table salt and is lithium-free; cobalt-free; and copper-free and graphite-free eliminating exposure to critical metal price increases and supply chain concerns.
The joint venture is commercializing its CERENERGY battery, with plans to construct a 100Mwh production facility on Altech’s land in Saxony, Germany. The facility anticipates to produce 10,000 10Kwh CERENERGY battery modules each year to provide grid storage solutions to the market.
