EdgeQ and Vodafone partners to develop the next-generation software-programmable 5G ORAN platforms

EdgeQ Inc, a leading innovator delivering the world’s first 5G Base Station on-a-chip, and Vodafone, a leading telecommunications mobile operator in Open Radio Access Network (ORAN), have partnered to create the next generation, software-programmable 5G ORAN platforms. The collaboration leverages upon ORAN to deliver the world’s first open programmable, fully in-line L1 acceleration card capable of supporting multi-carrier, massive MIMO. This immensely integrated platform exclusively converges the complete 4G/5G Physical layer onto a single card to focus on the 5G macro cell deployments.

Pioneer of ORAN

A pioneer of ORAN, Vodafone is innovating on a new set of software-specified compute platforms that converge 4G and 5G in-line stimulation to provide high proficiency, high performance, and cost-effective solutions. By leveraging EdgeQ’s fully accustomed ORAN 4G/5G PHY, and support for the advancing ORAN Alliance principles for open architectures and specifications, the accelerator card unites computing and connectivity in an efficient and scalable platform.

5G ORAN deployments

Vodafone continues dedicated as a market leader in powering immense 5G ORAN deployments. It sees EdgeQ enhancing the ORAN environment with its high capacity in-line L1 acceleration card, creating fresh thinking and innovation to the overall industry. EdgeQ facilitates operators like Vodafone to merely initiate ORAN, said Paco Martin, Head of OpenRAN, Network Architecture, Vodafone.

Highly scalable ORAN solution

EdgeQ enables a highly dense, highly scalable ORAN solution that supports multi-carrier, multi-tenet, and multi-users by compacting 4G, 5G, networking, and cloud components into a single chip. The scalable architecture covers an unparalleled quantity, all surrounded by a compact power envelope.

EdgeQ’s partnership with Vodafone fosters the aspirations of OpenRAN. The leading innovator can gather best-in-class hardware and software solutions to set new industry standards. This in turn facilitates operators to incorporate a holistic 4G-5G platform that is incessantly scalable, immensely integrated, yet openly customizable, said Vinay Ravuri, CEO and Founder of EdgeQ.

The leading innovator’s founding principles of an open, configurable 5G platform are prefaced on the underlying essence of Open RAN that enables operators with optionality and customizable solutions. The announcement with Vodafone corresponds with the first Joint ORAN Alliance and Telecom Infra Project Conference in Madrid, indicative of the expanding maturity of the OpenRAN Community.
