The SPA agreement will help expand QatarEnergy’s growing network of partnerships and clients globally.

QatarEnergy and Guangzhou Guanggang Gases & Energy Company (G-gas) made a long-term sales and purchase agreement (SPA) to supply 100 million cubic feet of helium from Qatar to China annually.

QatarEnergy is a state-owned petroleum company that operates all oil and gas activities in Qatar, including exploration, production, refining, transport, and storage. Sherida al-Kaabi, Minister of State for Energy Affairs, is the President & CEO of QatarEnergy.

Guangzhou Guanggang Gases & Energy Co. Ltd, or G-Gas, engages in the research and development (R&D), production, and sale of industrial electronic gases in China. The company offers high-purity nitrogen, helium, oxygen, hydrogen, argon, carbon dioxide, krypton, xenon, and other gases.

The business also offers solutions for designing and running gas storage, distribution, air separation units, and gas applications.

It is one of the top industrial gas in the People’s Republic of China, having a history of over 50 years.

They signed the contract on 25 February, and according to the contract terms, QatarEnergy will supply China with helium from its Ras Laffan helium facility for 20 years.

The 20-year contract is the first direct, long-term sales and purchase agreement for China’s helium supply from Qatar. Qatar’s world-class helium facilities in Ras Laffan will provide high-quality helium supplies to G-gas.

The Minister of State for Energy Affairs, Saad Sherida al-Kaabi, and also the President and CEO of QatarEnergy witnessed the signing of the sales and purchase agreement. The ceremony happened at QatarEnergy’s headquarters in Doha, and senior executives from G-gas and QatarEnergy attended the event.

When both companies were signing the sales and purchase agreement in QatarEnergy’s headquarters, Minister al-Kaabi stated he was extremely pleased to enter into a direct long-term agreement with G-gas since they would be able to meet the increasing demand for helium in China and other parts of the world. China is the crucial market destination for Qatari helium.

According to Minister al-Kaabi, Qatar is one of the biggest exporters of helium in the world, and this agreement will help expand QatarEnergy’s growing network of partnerships and clients globally.

When they complete the project, QatarEnergy’s Ras Laffan helium facility will be able to provide about 25 percent of the world’s helium supply since they get supply from many plants.

The helium from liquified natural gas (LNG) has six nines purity, or 99.9999%, making it suitable for specialized helium applications.

Minister al-Kaabi continued by saying that their helium capacity will be more than double with the North Field LNG expansion projects. It will further help many companies and industries that depend on helium to drive human development.

Many fields depend on helium for their business, like scientific research, medical technology, high-tech manufacturing, space exploration, and the defence industry.

A few examples of high-quality helium sourced from Qatar used in different applications are deep sea diving, semiconductors, specialized welding, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scanners, industrial coolants, entertainment, and many other uses.
